broken truss rod nut

Ok, crazy idea....do you know how you apply heat to a fretboard to remove it? I was thinking, apply the heat, but dont take off the fretboard, just grab the truss rod with a pair of pliers and pull. Would this work?

Why exactly would you be applying the heat then? To temporarily lift the fingerboard? No go. Chances are it's a PVA glue that will lose 90%+ of it's strength when you heat it up and soften it. The only glue I know of that keeps it's strength when you re-heat it up is hide glue. If you heat up the fingerboard, you'll need to remove all the old glue and sand / scrape to a clean surface so when you glue the fingerboard back onto the neck, it will bond properly.
