How major/expensive a deal is it to replace a broken trussrod in a bass neck?

Thanks.

Unless you've got some type of vintage axe or feel the need to keep it original just buy a new one.

Let's suppose this is the case. Opinions?

Removing the fingerboard, replacing the trussrod, replacing the fingerboard, is about a 2 hour job (if you don't run into any problems). Then after the glue dries you need to clean up the glue joint and do a setup, so call it 4 hours total. Plus parts.

Does your bass have it's truss rod under the fretboard or is it from the back under the skunk stripe?

Repairing the under fretboard style is much cheaper than the back access truss rod. I think must luthiers would charge $300 - $450 if there are no complications. It all hinges around the value of your instrument. Can you justify spending that amount?

Yes, if I were guarenteed good results and a seemless repair. Have a lead on someone who does excellent work?

The Heart of Rock n Roll is in Cleavland. There must be someone there.

Is this a Fender or Gibson style truss rod ? Stew Mac makes a truss rod rescue kit that is the bomb ! I used it on a Gibson G3 that the truss rod snapped off at the nut. Worked like a charm took all of 15 min. only cause I read the directions.
