great top!!! I would use the spalted area toward the butt to get max visibility.

agreed Wilser - I definitely plan to have the spalted area towards the butt. the body shape is not mine, but instead one that Larry used as a reference (it's his image) ... it's a CB bass shape IIRC

one set is looking to make its way into a single-cut bolt-on 6-string which is still in progress of having its specifications fully defined by its future owner. I'm suspecting it will be a Swamp Ash body with a dyed black Maple veneer line between.

the other top set will join the bin of available tops for a future client to select

all the best,

R

p.s. there just may be a top or two left in the billet that this was cut from <hint> <hint>

Man-

There seems to be some amazing bubinga floating around right now. Its funny how all different builders/suppliers will have similar kinds of things at the same time. Is that because there was a big harvest of similar timber, or is it more of a marketing "whats hot right now" kind of a thing.

I'm just thinking about how Roscoe, Zon, and Fbass all of the sudden all have some very unique, very similar bubinga rolling out of their shops right now. I wonder if they have the same supplier?

Oh yeah. BTW, HAWTNESS!!!!!!!

I know one supplier who has a SERIOUSLY large amount of similiar quality bubinga, if anyone wants to know. Very, very large billets of top grade stuff. Too much for private guys probably, but it's amazing stuff.

If I say that it's the same place that specializes in amazing walnut billets and burled woods in nor cal, a few people may know who it is. I know Zon does!

Now where have I seen something like that before...??

One of my local guys right now has four 13' long boule stacks from trunks that are about 3 feet across, and two of them are quilted to the nines just like that. Enough for probably 40 conference tables at $4k a pop.

But for tops, the best stuff is the "scabs" that are sliced from the outermost parts of the trunk, with about 30-40% sapwood. Problem is...I can't get in the door for under $1000 (I've already talked him down from $1500).
