Hi!

I'm working on my ten-string tap instrument. As a fingerboard wood I'll use lovely piece of bubinga, but I don't know if it requires oiling and/or waxing (whole instrument will be oiled and waxed). Maybe sanding will sufice?

Here's a pic of this piece:

Isn't it beautiful?

Cheers!

Cliff's acrylized bubinga boards were produced in my shop. IIRC he ordered some very high figured bubinga pieces and maybe the last two-tone sappy boards.

Bubinga Fretboards

Bubinga works nicely as a fingerboard.
This camphor burl bass has a sappy bubinga board. Nothing but lemon oil on the fretboard.
The other bass is the wood that Larry described. Fingerboard is stabilized bubinga. Will get nothing but micromesh sanding.

Man, I need to get this bass finished.

Those are sweet!

Can I use for example single (or multiple, or multiple + wax) coat of linseed oil? Is this necessary? Is that lemon oil significantly better than what I mentioned (is it somehow better at all?)? How about leaving the board 'unfinished', I mean only sanded?

Thanks for all replies! It's my first build, so you know...
