Buffing Light Scratches out of your Bass Finish?

Long time lurker, first time poster. I recently purchased a used Modulus Q5 bass and the thing plays great but it has a bit of surface blemishes that I was hoping I could remedy with some super fine 2000 - 3000 grit sandpaper and wet sanding the light scratches out of the lacquer finish. Is this recommended or are there buffing compounds that should be used? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

would have to see how deep the scratches are, very fine scratches can be removed with rubbing compound, deeper or wider ones will probably need to be wetsanded with 1000-1500 grit to start and finished with 2000 and rubbing compound, then polished with swirl remover, sealer and wax.
