What is the best way to buff or polish poly. Buffing w/compound? Wax? Sanding w/ finer paper?

If you don't want to get into arbors motors buffing wheels and compound you could get a set of micro-mesh pads and go at it.

wet sand to 1500 or 2000, buff with electric buffer using Fine rubbing compound, Meguires deep crystal #2 and finish with carnauba wax. This is for a high gloss finish, and comes out gorgeous.

Wet sanding is done with what is called "wet or dry" paper, you use water and a small amount of soap in the water to act as a lubricant so the finer grits of the wet or dry papers don't load up with finish, and don't make load scratches. You generally wet sand with 400 grit on up through 2000, unless you are using micromesh, and that can go as high as 10,000+

I'll try this, although thru all my searching, I can't find sandpaper higher than 1500.

LMAO....goto a paint supply, or autobody shop, and ask them where they get theirs. Check out "Klingspor" online, they have all you would need. Also look at Stew Mac, or Woodcraft for the micromesh stuff, that is available in many other woodworking and metalworking catalogs you can find online.
