I voted my preference, but I'll still participate whatever the format ends up being.

I think the best idea is to encourage as many people as possible to build. The "theme" choice will probably discourage anyone who isn't interested in whatever style/color/wood/shape is suggested. The budget bass idea was just used, and in tight times it might be hard to convince would-be first-time-builders to shell out for boutique stuff.

I'd say let the categories establish themselves and put as few limits on entries as possible so that us voyeurs can see more projects, rather than less.

I think it would be nice to see a high end competition. It is always good and well to see such amazing luthiers build amazing instruments for less than $150, but I would like to see them when they do it to it; full potential, ya know?

Yeah, I'd like a grand prize from K2/Gecko/Mach3 but that goes against the ideals of the contest, I suppose

It's always amusing when a newb to the LC makes this stupid of a comment, as they expect every person to know how to make pick-ups and how to engineer a bridge.

To Questionmark? you might want to understand that most of the people who participate in these things do not have the specific tools or knowledge to build proper pick-ups, other than crude piezos, or the ability to manufacture anything beyond the basic acoustic style bridge, thus defeating the purpose. Possibly learning what goes into making pick-ups and bridges would bring you a bit more into the real world, and what this forum is about. There are forums for those seperate disciplines in other sites.

I do wind pick-ups and have a winder, I also have a small mill in which I could mill a bridge. I am the exception, not the rule.
