And sanding, and sanding, and wetting down, and sanding... you get the picture. So this morning I finally got the first coat of oil on. As thick as, grain fill sort of coat. Here are some pics.

I used my decent camera this time as you can see. However, in the flesh, it's darker and the top and back are slightly pink and the figure and marks stand right out. I'm pretty happy with it I have to say. So, now I get to go as close to mirror finish as I can get.

Ok, so the guitar needs to be finished for Sunday and it's thursday. Everything is mostly on track. Here's how it looks.

A few little dramas to sort, but I reckon it will be a winner. Hope he likes it!

Went round to my luthiery mentor's tonight and he showed me how to make a nut...

With it done, it was time for a testplay...

Still needs a little adjustment it's pretty darn close as is. Super low action.

Here it is 99% done. Still a few little things to be done but pretty much ready for Sunday. I'll take some real pics with a camera before I give it away.

Finally had a chance to play it in anger this morning. WOW! What a sound. Dark and brooding with plenty of string tension and tone. It's currently setup with 10-56s

There are only a few little things to finish it off.
1. Polish the nut and glue it on.
2. Make a small cover for the back.
3. Put some kind of plaque on it.

I think 2 and 3 might be combined. As far as I can tell, my bro has NO idea it's coming, so I want to get someone to take a pic as he opens it.

What's also kind of nice about is that last night, my mentor told me it was easily the best guitar I've build so far. He kept saying, "well done" over and over and he's a total perfectionist. That meant a lot to me. This is not a complex design or fiddly in terms of inlays features and the like, but there were a number of tense moments. Putting it together yesterday had my hands shaking! I also realized there was no ground wire connected to the bridge!

Tests have revealed... it's unneeded at this point. *phew*

The point is, I can now turn out instruments of a commercial standard. Of course, I take ages, although this has happened pretty fast really. Show pics to come soon!

Well it's all together and finished. I don't have a plaque or whatever on it, but I did write the serial no and "Happy 40th Andy" inside it. Here some pics I took. The big day is tomorrow...

Enjoy.
