I'm just finishing up a 3" radius on a birdseye maple fingerboard. Let me just say that it's a whole lot of work on maple, and ebony would be even more. I think the best results come from a radiused block and a whole lot of elbow grease, but I built a router jig to do it that worked to a point. Of course, it also gave me a whole lot of grief and I still have to put in a number of hours with the block and sandpaper, so I can't call it a complete success.

Hey Nateo, I think the guy is talking about a 3.75" wide board.

If it is then a radiused block like Stew-Mac sells is gonna be weird, but workable as it is not that wide. I would make my own radiusing board, but probably I'd try to rig up a jig to do it with a router. Something like Nateo built. At least to get it roughly to shape anyway.

I got a couple of 4" wide radius blocks from a luthier supply in Georgia, John Marshall, I think, he was very cool to deal with, and they only took about a week to get. Custom made, about $40-ish for the pair, IIRC...he sells on ebay a lot as well. Just email him, he'll make them that wide. I just looked on ebay, he has a set on there right now.

A radiusung jig for the router would save time, and sweat.

ref Martin Koch/JP/Hambone's jigs (same principle)
