Can I Convert a Fretless to a Fretted?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi, is there a way to convert an old freltless precision neck to a fretted neck?

Any recommendations on whom does this kind of work at a reasonable price?

Thanks for the help.

Yep.

Any Luthier would do it. The price, I'm not so sure about.

Well, I'm not sure on price, but if you took it to a "real" luthier or any good shop, it would probably be at least a few hundred dollars.

And the way I see it, if it was going to cost that much, why not just buy another neck that's fretted, then you can swap them out whenever you wanted?

Buying a new (or used?) Pbass retrofit neck (USAGC, Warmouth, Mighty Mite, etc) will probably cost less than a good luthier SHOULD charge for making a fretless neck fretted.

That's absolutely right. If you find someone who says they'll do it for $50 bucks or something, stay away!!!

Sure it can be done, but why ruin a good neck by putting in obstructive crossmembers? And pay deerly, too!
Buy another one, and save this one for better days.

Ok, convinced... I'll keep the fretless as-is and get a different neck.

Thanks for talking me out of it
