Charles Neils Pre-Stain Conditioner (blotch control)
Anyone use it on softer woods such as Basswood ? It gets rave reviews in the woodworking community

I'd just cut some Zinsser Sealcoat in half with denatured alcohol as a wash coat...
Don't know how it works, but it's the best preconditioner I've used. Smells like vinegar a bit, and works really, really well. I've used it on some test pieces of basswood and it prevented blotching better than minwax preconditioner...

Good to hear a fellow TB'er has used it with success.
I am going to try it.
