checking neck

Hi,

I am fairly new to electric bass, and am wondering: how does one check a bass for a warped neck? I am familiar with the concept of relief, but i don't know what is meant by a warp. Is it a twist? Also, how can it be repaired?

I believe "warp" generally means either twist, or irregular relief not caused by the truss rod or string tension.
