Cleaning an inlaid ebony board?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,
I have a gaboon ebony fretboard on one of my basses, with gorgeous abalone block inlays. I'm wondering the best way to clean a couple smudges/grease spots off of it. Look like they may be from glue. I don't know. I put Gibson fretboard conditioner on it last night to keep it from drying up but wondering if there is anything I could apply first, to get rid of the smudges, without damaging the wood or inlays. Any suggestions appreciated
Thanks
-Tim

I prefer an acetic/citric solution to cut through weak organic grime. Spike a small amount of kitchen vinegar with some real lemon juice and wipe with rag. If there is glue on there the removal will depend on the type; cyanoacrylate will come off with acetone, aliphatic is best sanded as is epoxy.

No idea if it is even glue. Vinegar and lemon juice won't harm the wood or inlays?
