custom bass idea

ok.... so i've wanted a p-bass body and neck but with a reverse headstock, 2 MM style humbuckers set up like a telecaster. that's just the idea.... now then... question is, would the E string being longer mean i would ave to put the bridge closer to the neck? or just intonate best i can with standard bridge placement?

tl;dr? does a reverse headstock on a p-bass make a difference in tuning it?

it should be just fine. as far as i have seen with reverse headstock basses, the bridge seems the same.

The E string will not be "longer", the bridge to nut length does (and should) remain the same regardless of the amount extending beyond the bridge.

Install normally and if your strings come up short you'll need an XL set.

There is no practical difference in the tuning, since the area being tuned is just up to the nut, not past the nut to the tuning machines.

The only concern is that some string sets may not have a long enough E string to reach the farthest tuner.

The bridge shouldn't be an issue depending on what strings you're using. My strings (TI flats, DR Hi-beams) are usually all the same length, so they would fit just fine on a reverse-headstock bass.

With a P-style headstock, the tuning keys may be a little awkward to reach, but the idea sounds really awesome overall!
