Dead Pickup, Live Pickup?

Tomorrow I will be embarking on a tour to Puerto Rico with my school band and I was planning on taking a crappy Yamaha bass I own. I obviously didn't want to take my nice DJ Lakland

, so I thought this would be a good choice. But, I pulled the bass out tonight, only to find the J-Bridge pup has a BAD crackling tendency. I switched the volume controls on the P-Neck pup and the J-Bridge Pup to see which of the two was causing this hideous noise, and it turned out to be the J pup. Is there anything I can do to fix this before 7 AM tomorrow when my plane leaves?!?!?

Leave it on the P setting?

Yeah, I was considering it, but the bass is crappy as it is, I have absolutely no treble! I want to fix the J if at all possible.

check connections and if one is loose sodder it on better?

well, I just pulled out the pup, and saw no loose connections. I looked at the pup and it had one wire that looked pretty comfortably attached to the pup. I couldn't really see much of anything after taking out the pup, there's just some semi-sponge like material on the bottom of the pup....couldn't pull the spongy material off either.

don't that needs to be there. what about the by the pot? the connection my be at the pot.

The J pup has only one wire running to the appropriate pot, and it maintains a solid connection to the pot. Ya think the pot could be dirty? I seen a pot cleaned before by spraying some sort of spray into that hole on the pot, but if I should try and clean it, what should I use? Any specific brands? WD-40?

that spray is compressed air...... get any compressed air and you can use that. is the pot firmly connected to everything else?

A quick note on compressed air cans (keyboard dusters), do NOT spray them into your pots or any other electronics while the can is tilted a lot or held upside down. This is common knowledge around most people I know, but I thought I might add it here anyways. Also, don't directly inhale the white fumes that come out of the can when tipped upside down.
