Laydees and bassmen,

I am a young bass player with an idea.

An idea for a bass that will may cause you great pain to even considering thinking of building but.....

Who thinks they can built this:

4 String
24 fret Maple fingerboard w/Maple neck
Fender-style headstock (4+0 headstock configuration)
Precision body
DiMarzio DP127 P Bass Pickups In White
Seymour Duncan Phase II bridge pickup
Schaller 3d 1498 bridge in Black
Passive EQ

Colour of Bass:Black with Matching headstock

People, get your lumberjacks and soldering guns at the ready.

Good to hear from your ideas,....and prices

the pro's are not allowed to tell you that they could do that, however, it would be fairly simple for most of them

Double-octave Precision Idea

I could build it, but then I would want to kill you.

If I were you I would look really carefully at the work of some guys here (you have really high end quality in here) and pick up the one guy which works is the one I like the most and PM him.

Help me out here

So the 'odd' thing about this bass is that it will have 24 frets?

He keeps insisting it be an MIM Fender with 24 frets. I don't know how a player with an MIM budget can even begin to discuss something custom made - even from the semi-pro's here. But I can tell you this - in the final analysis, a bass such as this will have little direct resemblence to a Fender Precision, in appearance or tone. There is at least 2" of additional fretboard that will have to be accomodated. That would mean a very deep inset for the neck - so deep that the uppermost register would be hard to access. That's just so the bridge could stay in it's stock (20 fret) location. If one were to mount the 24 fret neck in a stock location on the body, the bridge would have to be moved radically to maintain a 34" scale and then the instrument would be entirely neck heavy.

This alteration can't be considered innovative or unusual since it isn't likely to be accomplishable. Lots of basses have 24 frets and lots of those have P pickups. What they don't have is a stock P body and stock component location.

heyheyhey.. i only said MIM cause i wouldn't have to pay as much.
Some people don't like spending obscene amounts of money for an instrument you know.

I ain't on a MIM budget...you could say i am on a Sandberg PM4 budget....

Gob, you're going to need to understand something.

Anything that isn't off the shelf is going to cost a lot of money.

Try:

"The prettier the bass, the uglier the price"

But you had the gist of it in your first post.

You might want to check out Warmoth necks.

www.warmoth.com

I've got a 2-octave fretless neck from them on one of their bodies. It truly is a thing of beauty. It would probably be the cheapest way for you to get your 24 frets, provided the Warmoth neck fits whatever neck pocket you supply. If you went for a full Warmoth bass like I did, you're looking at $1,000 easy, but you won't be disappointed.

yeah, warmoth does 24 fret necks by having the fretboard stick out well beyond the neck wood itself, so you COULD actually get a warmoth neck and attach it to a MIM P body.

actually, you could even get the body from them, and save all the trouble.

EDIT: and, if youre like me, a construction idiot who cannot put together parts basses or wire electronics, i think nino valenti is the guy to go to for this kind of thing. but he may have already given up on warmoth parts.

Or this one

http://www.clementbass.com/bass%20pi...ll%20front.jpg
but they will be way out of the price range you are thinking of. Remember it takes at least 40-60 hours of just labor to produce the bass not including parts.......t
