I am Considering defretting my Cort Curbow but it has the "ebanol" black plastic/resin fretboard. What, if anything, would be an appropriate material to fill the slots with?

Thanks,

Chris

Take the dust from sanding it and mix it with glue?

It is very difficult to defret properly. It cracks and chips easily. I have heard (and seen) horror stories.
In this case I really suggest getting a fretless Curbow instead, since they are pretty easy to find.

@ Jazz Ad - thought about that too but I have one sitting around that I don't use much so I thought I could save a few coins by going the DIY route and return it to service as well.

How'd it work out?

I just snagged a Cort Curbow 6 from eBay for a little over $200 (yes, I checked that the neck was straight ) with the sole aim of defretting it too.

I'll probably be upgrading the electronics as well; options I'm looking at are:

- the Bart upgrade kit (does it include the same "slap switch"? that's useful)
- a Q-Tuner (as long as it doesn't radically change the basic CC sound, which I rather like - I just want it thicker and higher quality, and noiseless).
- one of the above plus a Big Single added in the bridge position
- RDS look intriguing, and you certainly can't argue with the price

I'm thinking fill the slots with thin plastic strips or something, paint the fingerboard and then epoxy it to bring it back to glass. With the paint under the epoxy you'd just have a smooth surface and any damage would be hidden...
