Electronics question....

Sign in to disble this ad
I posted this in the pickup/electronics section but nobody is responding so I thought I'd try here. I need to choose electronics for the bass posted below which was built for me. It shipped with some weird stuff. I was given the choice of upgrading to either Bartolini NTMB electronics or EMG BTS. Can you tell me the differences. I'll keep this post short cuz I'm thinking the length of other post might be why nobody's responding.

I once installed an EMG BQS system in a bass, the version with the concentric mid. I thought the preamp was excellent, as most preamps out there are (aggie, bart, noll ect...) but the sound just wasn't my cup of tea. It's a very clear punchy tone. I much prefer the warmth of the bartolini.

Of course that's all personnal choice and that's subjective. Best advice would be to try two basses with those two preamps and make up your own choice.

Thanks Phil. That's pretty much the same thing the guy told me who's going to do the work. Can you tell me some groups you like the bass sound of (I don't know players names all that well) and maybe the types of production basses you lean towards? It's going to be real difficult for me to check out basses with EMGs and Barts. Wouldn't even know where to start.

I'm a Musicman guy and lean towards that kind of sound, lotsa punch and midrange. I also like the old P-bass sound, Laklands, and I really dug an old Peavey millenium with 3 band EQ from many years ago (not the newer ones) that I once played . I don't like the sizzly sound of spectors and I'm not all that crazy about what I've heard in the Warwicks that have MM pickups. To me that's sterile.

Just tryin to spit ideas out. Opinions all appreciated.
