Fingerboard binding?

I am working on my first bass and I don't plan on doing this as of yet, but out of curiosity, Would you cut off the entire edge and bind it the thickness of the board or would you route a slot and the bind it?

I have gotten into the habit of doing "integral binding" on my fingerboards...slicing off the edges with a thin-kerf blade on a bandsaw, slotting the board, then gluing them back on.

I really like the look and lack of fret tang sticking out the edge of the neck.
