First Acoustic Build--Danelectro Longhorn Style

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all,
I'm still in the planning stages of my first acoustic build, and would really love it if it would be possible to shape it like a Dano Longhorn, but I am also wondering if it's feasible considering the amount of bending that would be required around the horns.
Please do not be afraid to shoot me down, I realize the level of ambition required with this project!
Thanks in advance,
Will

I have seen hollowbody (Thin laminated sides) longhorn bodies. They were made by Danolectro under the Coral name. They show up on ebay or elsewhere from time to time. If you made the "points" of the horns as blocks, it would make things far easier. You still will most likely have to make a form if you want to bend the sides. It would be interesting.

Yeah, blocked horns seems to be the best course of action.
Also, if any of you could possibly recommend a company that would be good for acoustic tonewoods of this size, that would be fantastic

There's a ton of sources out there. Luthier's Mercantile International (www.lmii.com) would be a great place to start. They have a large selection, plus a lot of inforamtion in general. Good luck on your project, can't wait to see pic's.

Alrighty! The woods have been ordered and they are...
Bearclaw Soundboard
Quilted Maple Backs and Sides
Hard Rock Maple Neck
Ebony Fingerboard
And to top it all off, green tint.
Herman Munster bass anyone?

Cool, this was one of those builds I really wanted to see take shape. I've never had one, but I've always really liked Longhorns, and Danelectro's build style (though I know you probably won't be building this like theirs are built). Looking forward to seeing it.
