First build pics (not a bass though)

I am working on my first build...It is going to be an electric four string mandolin.

The body woods are - oak/mahogany/oak
neck- mahogany
fretboard- haven't decided yet
pickup- Dragonfire Humbucker (in single coil casing)
scale- 14.5"

The oak comes from some chairs that have been in my family for years...They were starting to look nasty (see pic 1) so my mom wanted me to throw them out but instead I salvaged some of the better looking peices. The mahogany was given to me at a yard sale and I was told that it came from the Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville.

Pic one is the glue up---yah I know..."needs more clamps" but it came out really well for only using two

The second pic is the roughly jig sawn body cut out
Next on the block will be neck shaping.

what do you think thus far? any ideas?

it's going to be a bolt on neck (most likely)...i will be ordering the truss rod/pups/fret wire/looking at fretboard wood this weekend so hopefully I will be able to get this project a rolling along

I figured this is a pretty simple first project and I will be happy as long as I can put strings on it and it makes noise...lol

try a bois de rose fingerboard, very beautiful red figure, it'll contrast with the oak and mahogany body, how are you going to be fretting it?

I'll look into that for a fretboard...

I plan on using one of the Fret Calcs online and printing it out to scale (at work) then making a jig and cutting on the table saw. I will purchase mandolin fret wire and use a rubber faced hammer to tap them in...any better ideas I should consider?
