Do yourself a good favor and pick up, Melvyn Hiscock's "Make your own electric guitar" and "building electric guitars", by Martin Koch ( ebook is $20 at
http://buildyourguitar.com/clickbank/ebeg/index.asp ). Both books helped me alot and will greatly benefit you, as well as reserve the more "complex and detailed" questions for here at talkbass. I (and possibly others) would highly recommend doing some reading before you just "jump into it".
