Today, I also ordered the body blank! Two pieces of Honduran Mahogany, measuring 20" x 7" x 1,6". I also found someone who could deliver me a nice piece of flamed maple for the top (1/4"), but I want to see it before I buy it and it's a 2 hour drive, so I have to wait until next week before I have time for that.

I glued the maple together, here it's with the outline on it:
Then I did the rough cut of the top with my jigsaw (although it came out quite nice, so it's not really rough):
... and what a sweet combination of woods!
Today I finished rough cutting the body (also with jigsaw). It was a very slow process but it went very well! (But it's not as nice as the top, so I will have to do some more cutting before I can start routing against the template):
Also I learnt that you can cut maple very clean, but mahogany gives a lot more dust.. and since I wasn't wearing safety wear I now know what mahogany tasts like, how it feels up your nose and that it isn't very pleasant to have in your eyes.

The one on top gets the cool sound holes and the one at the bottom doubles as cavity for the electronics. Should also get off some weight (not that the mahogany is that heavy, but it isn't very light either).
What do you think? Would this be okay?
Ps.: did you notice that the sound holes are shaped like an 'R' (as a kind of signature) and also a bass clef in a way.. ?

or is it only "spare wood" for routing away after the neck is set in?

But I know it is somewhat unconventional.. I get a lot of remarks about it.. but I think it is going to look great |
