First Build Tools

Hey there.
Im putting together the tools for a bass build. Im thinking of getting a bunch of 6" c-clamps to laminate the neck and glue the fingerboard. How many will I need? Are C-clamps required, or could I go with bar clamps? How many 24" bar clamps will I need for gluing the body together (3-4)?

Also, I am thinking about using a coping saw to cut my inlays (doing wood inlays) and to cut the slots for the fingerboard. Will this work or will i need to get a special fret slot saw?

Inlay work: I have a dremel, so what tip should I use to cut inlays, and which should i use to rout the body?

Thanks. I went to the NAMM show yesterday so my head is swimming with ideas. When I get started I'll start putting up pictures for your approval.

Can't advise on some of your Q's but I'd steer clear of a coping saw for fret slotting, the blade is too flexible. You need a straight metal gent's saw or modelling saw you can butt up against the edge of a set square/steel rule or fret cutting jig to make sure your cut is straight and perpendicular.

For the body 3 to 4 bar clamps are ok. For the neck in my limited experience for a neck through at least 12 but you will NEVER have (and use) enough clamps.

BTW how was NAMM?

Seconded. I used a coping saw for the fret slots on my very first build, and it was terrible. Too wide, the blade flexes and it's near impossible to get the slots straight.
