First Fretless build.....

Sign in to disble this ad
Greetings fellow bassists and luthiers! I have a puzzling question. I think I know the answer but would love to run it through you all before I make my final decision.

I have a walnut neckthrough with walnut body back and bubinga tops. The fingerboard is Ipe. My nut is also ipe. The question I have is: After I set my string height (at the nut), I have some buzz. The buzz is located about where B is on the A string. At this point, I stopped because I wanted to seek better advice as this is the first time I have sought to set up a fretless bass. It is a 5 string and the strings I am using are DR High Beams. I assume that my action is still to high, but like I said, I am not 100% sure.

Thank you ahead of time!

Are you sure the fb is perfectly flat? If so, it may just need some truss rod/bridge adjusting.

From what I can tell it appears perfectly flat. I block sanded the FB with a very long black to combat any waviness that may occur. No neck bowing so far. Will double check that though.
