First semi-build

Don't know where you have to start to qualify as a build. I found a raw 4 string body (shaped) and, over 4 months time, found a cool 5 string neck, all the parts to finish the one I hope to gig with. These first pics are after getting most of the parts and laying it out.

Next Phase

Had to route the pocket and pup cavities for 5 string, drill ground wire and pupwire holes in the cavities. Body is Argentinean mahogany, very light. Came away w/ a great pocket fit. These pups are Sadowsky jazz. Will post pics tomorrow.

Finished Player

Here is the "finished" product...they're never finished.
Sadowsky's with varitone which sound(s) amazing through the preamp/DI from Sadowsky as well. Ultralite tuners from Hipshot, super speedy neck w/400+ wet sanding. Badass5 bridge through the body, old pickguard. Looking to get black pearl soon. Thanks for looking. Next I'm going to try from scratch albeit way down the road.

And now the best thing - I just weighed in and it is BARELY 8 lbs. soaking wet. Tone + sustain - weight = Happiness

Man I really love your bass, great build, Ive been wanting to do a body like that, I assume that you stained the body and then applied an oil finish. I really want to do the body like that if you have time could you tell me exactly how you finish the body. Thanks and great job.

Thanks Manny
The thing is so light it's scary. Problem is it also absorbed about 3 coats of stain so it was hard to get even. I steel wooled the final coat in and then used tung oil. It absorbed a couple coats of that. When I finally got it where I wanted it, I put a light finish of satin gloss clear on to protect it from dings (very soft wood) a bit. It would probably weigh in at 7.5 without all the layers of finishing material. Hope that helps.

What part of this is a build? I only see an assembly.

It has to be nice to have a bass that light. I just got my SX today and I love the color, but I will be stripping the neck and putting a light tint on it. Thanks for the reply.
