First sunburst...

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys,

I hadn't done a sunburst before, so I took this Carvin Bolt kit that I put together a couple of years ago and sanded her down. I originally put a couple coats of tung oil on.

The neck is just going to be clear nitro over the maple, but I did a 3-tone tobacco burst on the body. Did the light brown a little towards the middle first, then the dark brown around the edges, and then shot amber over the whole thing. I'm pretty happy with it!!!

(This isn't finished yet. I just shot the clear over the color yesterday and have yet to flat/wet sand and buff)

I've been looking into getting my Holt logo made into a decal to throw on the headstock too, that would be awesome

congrats Ray, looks great! you can use inkjet waterslide decal paper that you can print on any old inkjet printer. It's an inexpensive and easy way to get the decal done.

That's what I've been thining about doing. I'll have to take a trip to an office supply store and see if I can find some. I already have the logo on the computer!

Thanks for the kind words fellas.

T, let me know if I can help in any way.

I was never able to find it at office depot, office max or staples locally. I used these guys http://www.decalpaper.com/

Have you thought about a vinyl laser cut decal? Any color you want, really easy, then shoot clear over 'em. I prefer it to a waterslide.

A vinyl laser cut decal huh? Doesn't sound like something I could do myself, is it? If not, where could I get it done?

Thanks again everyone!

Love it! I think the 'tobacco burst' is my favorite of the typical bursts.

Me too I have a '66 jazz that I got in '83 and it was a re-fin then I have often thought about having it redone in a tobbaco burst..t

Excellent job! I hope when I grow the courage to try the sunburst thing that it looks half as nice.
