Fixing scratches and small dings

Sign in to disble this ad
hello guys.... First of all i m a total newbie to woodwork and finishing , but i m willing to try anyway.
I did some searching already but i m not sure about results i found.
I would just like to fix or at least reduce some scratches and beating i did to my bass.Is it possible and reasonable to try to do it myself? Can you point me in the good direction with what to do?
It is an Alembic Epic , on the website it says finish is high gloss polyester.
I ll join some pics so u can see what kind of damage it is.
Thanks in advance

sebastien

Scratches can usually be buffed out with a buffer it they are not too deep. Chips must be filled. If it is clear over color put a color touch up and then fill with Krazy glue. Flat sand the repair and buff out. Most poly clear coats are so thick, you can do a lot of sanding and buffing without going thru the finish. I would not learn how to do repairs on a nice instrument, send it to a pro and do your learning on something very cheap.

I am no luthier, but as it seems you have to do a re-finish, in such expensive instrument is good option, some dings are very deep, a buffer will only make it look better but will not make the ding dissapear, a refinish will make it look like new! thus elevating the actual value of the bass

Exactly.... I m kind of trying to sell it but those marks hold people back... I don t mind them as the bass sounds amazing no matter what it looks like. I ll try on a small surface myself and if it makes an obvious difference difference i ll keep on. If not i ll look into a professional refinishing.
Just for saying , those marks show much more on the pics than IRL.
If there is anybody that could do the refinish from Denmark , PM me!
