Flat Finish Repair

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an MTD z5 that had a flat finish, but parts of the bass where I play and around the edges and around the knobs have become VERY glossy looking. I tried buffing back to a flat looking finish with 1000 steel wool and it worked somewhat to dull the shine but left mant very fine scratches. Is there something I can use to give it the flat look again without the scratches? Thanks.

Try using the 0000 steel wool with some furniture wax or mineral/baby oil as a lubricant.

I doubt that you'll be able to replicate it without scratches, but it's worth messing around with different grits of micromesh or steel wool. Try different motions, too - you might get closer with a small circular scratch pattern than with long straight scratches.
