flattening pickguard

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok, here's the dealio. I left my pickguard sheet sitting on the passenger seat of my car, it got hot, and pick guard kinda softened and took the shape of the seat. How do I get it flat again?
Can I? If not anyone wanna donate a 6"x5" piece of pickguard?
I plan to heat it with a heat gun and sandwich it with something flat. better way?

If you can take a pic and tell us what it's going on that will make things easier.

i put mine outside on a hot day in the sun on something flat. once it flattened i brought it inside to cool and it was fine.

try putting it back in the car on a hot day on something flat. or put it in the oven. just keep a close eye on it.

Put it in an oven, on something flat, like a cookie sheet. Heat to 200-225 degrees. It MAY lay back down. But it may not, and instead may shrink and curl up even more. Nothing to lose by trying.

Uh, leave it in the sun for a few hours then clamp it between 2 sheets of glass and leave that for a few hours. Bring it in to cool and you'll have a flat pick guard.

Don't use an oven.

+1. It works for warped vinyls too.

Heat gun? Heat lamp? Should do the same thing.

An oven and two pieces of glass, or anything flat as well as heavy is your best bet. A car will get to ~180 degrees on a sunny day. So my guess is that ~30 minutes in the oven between two flat plates with allowing it to cool slowly should have you back to normal.

You may lose some thickness more noticeably at the edges but you should still be able to use it.

In the photo, it looks like there's a John Deere in the background.

If the heat thing don't work, there's your plan B.

If you press it between glass, I would expect that any dirt at all on the glass might emboss into the plastic, so that's something to be careful of. For that matter, same idea as far as removing all traces of that tape and adhesive first.
