Flight case build

I've been in need of a hard case for a while now and haven't ever found a store bought case that I was happy with.

So inspired by a thread a while back I decided to have a go at making one myself.

I was going to build a couple but thought I would start with one (especially seeing as the supplies added up to more than I was expecting)

The requirements are:
- fits the bass snugly
- durable
- unique

So I started this project yesterday.

First up getting hold of some supplies:

- Plywood for the front / back / sides
- pine for the frame / bracing
- foam for the inside
- also got some hinges and corner protectors (for lack of a better word)

Still need to find:
- faux fur for the inside
- a fabric to cover the outside. I'm thing paisley or something similar
- I'm thinking about using belt buckles to keep the case closed
- I want to make some of the fixtures for the case (handle / etc ) from off-cuts from the bass.

Here's the progress I made yesterday:

Made a frame on top of the bottom section.

Added some extra bracing and added the sides to the bottom section of the case.

Started cutting some packing foam.

I'll keep people posted when I make some more progress

I've been building cases for my instruments. I use no-back carpet for the outside, and felt for the inside with 1/2" padding. The frame is 1/4" ply with 1x4 ripped-2 1/2" for the bottom and 1" for the top. The hardware is from a local home center and the handle is a piece of leather with a slit on the ends and 1/4" bolts. It's been costing me around $100 to build one. I can stand on it when it's finished. It's pretty heavy as well.
