yeah, I know I have seen a flippable bass, similar idea, maybe the guy listed above is the one. But it has been done.

I know a guy with a g***** that has interchangeable fingerboards; one 12 tone, one 19 tone, and a fretless. It has a metal plate adjoining the neck with dado slots at either end.

5 grand eh? well, maybe by the time I've saved that much they'll make a 6 string bass version. I wonder if they'll sell me a neck...

that is pretty amazing. I used to dream about that but it just didn't seem feasible. if the frets rotate, the radius must be completely flat. not that that bothers me, I play so many different stringed things I'm comfortable on any neck. I don't know if it's really worth the convenience, I have a few tunes where it'd be nice but being able to switch basically instantly isn't necessary for what I play, but then, if I had one, I'd write for it. 5k :/
