Flipping a Fender?

Sign in to disble this ad
This may have been covered, but a search didtn turn up much, If one were to take a lefthanded bass, say a Jazz bass just for kicks, what modifications would you have to make to make it work as well as possible.

Obviously a new nut would be needed and probalby a different bridge right?

Well thanks, I was wondering about it cuz I think it would be kind of cool to be Jimi Hendrix on bass.

I did that once to a jazz, the nut would have to be changed, but you can just reverse the saddles in the bridge. Then all you have to do is get use to playing it, which I couldn't. My right arm just couldn't rest comfortably that high up but if you played it with a pick it might work out better.

About a hundred years ago, (okay... 1982), I had a Fender Jazz with a lefty neck... I got it that way, and that was way before I knew or cared anything about gear, such as year, etc... I just knew that it was one of the best necks I had ever played, and was pretty old when I received it. Sadly, this bass was stolen when my band's van got stolen, (we lost all of our gear except for the drumset, which was in a station wagon with the drummer).

Other than looking cool, (and being a slammin' neck), I don't think that the 'handedness' of the neck had any effect...

You could get a thumb rest which would be cool cuz it would be in just the same spot that it normally would be for a normal vintage looking bass. Did the pickups sound any different with the strings on opposite poles of the pickup.

I put emg's in it so I couldn't say but you could always flip the pickups too.

Very cool Idea, I would maybe want to throw in EMGs or Dimarzios, I think that would turn out really well, though I think I like the exposed poles better.
