Seems like the Reverend Rumblefish is made like that. I've ony seen pictures though so don't take my word for it.

I know there are a few threads on those in the basses section. Try searching there.

(A Danelectro top is not Formica, it's 3/8" masonite.)

There have been some people post guitars on the MIMF forum that were made like a Dano but had formica tops and backs.

Here is a link to another one on Offset guitars forum.

Here is a thread on reranch...

There are a couple of pics in this old thread on the TDPRI but most of the pic links have gone 404.

Danelectro most definitely made guitars with Formica tops. Here's one:

Rick Turner has been making the Model T guitar with a Formica top for ages. I don't ever recall him doing a bass in Formica, though.

maybe... maybe not. I'm willing to bet that top's not original. but whatever! A formica top is a cool idea.

I am toying with the idea of having the bass look sort-of like a guitar-hero guitar. The only thing on the bass top would be the bridge. The pickups would be under the Formica top.
Top all white with a white bridge. Back and sides black.

Dont know how well the pickups would work under the formica top.

If you use a piezo bridge you wouldn't need pickups under the Formica. Of course, that depends whether you like the sound of piezos.

I think you won't have enough magnetic interaction with the strings if you mount the pickups under a flat Formica top: there will just be too much gap. Maybe if you cut the pickup covers out of the same Formica top you might get the approximate look you're after.

One more aesthetic consideration will be how you hide the seam between the Formica top and sides. Danelectro uses paint to hide this joint.

In general, sounds like you'd like something along these lines:
