hi all,

i was thinking about putting together my next bass since i think i have an idea of what do i want...
a thin jazz neck, maybe a precision body, or some nice body from ebay. getting it a string throuh body bridge and nice hardware. taking care of electronics, im between p/j pickups or a set of t-40 pickups, all properly coneected and sealed.

the thing its that i dont want a playable bass. i want an amazing piece of gear put together, somethingi can gig and record with. so... what are the chances that i end up getting a piece of crap? what do you think i should take in consideration? should i just give up and get a standard 1000 euros bass?

i think iñm secretly asking for some rational encouragement

Rather than risk making a mess of it I'd get Mr Valenti to make a parts bass for you.
Check out >> www.valentibasses.com , he's also a regular on talkbass.com, there's a few threads on here with some awesome looking basses.

His basses get amazing reviews from all the talkbass members who own one, apparently giving much higher priced Sadowsky and Lakland basses a run for their money, and with todays exchange rate an Active 4 string P Bass comes in at €1,124.62, just a wee bit over your rough budget.

valenti it´s not an option. i meant that i want a bass that fits what i want and feels good, but i´m not gonna put 1000 in it. im doing this because i think i might be able to do it myself and both be proud and save money at the same time.

im not in a hurry, but my main fretted bass neds a fret change, and instead im going to defret it a nd turn it in to a fretless. so i´ll be needing a main fretted, thats the pourpuse of this. getting a "good" price on parts, putting it all together with love and tenderness and getting an awesome bass. that the whole sounds "more expensive" than the sum of its parts, plus getting it the way i want it.

but hey, thanks a lot anyway for advice

Hey man,
sorry about that, I got the wrong end of the stick!

Well for parts stuff, I Warmoth bits seem to be pretty damned good.
I think with regards to ending up with a mess, If you get at least the neck and body from the same place you shouldn't have any bother getting a good solid neck/body connection. Bar that, I think the hardest bits will depend on how handy you are with a soldering iron and a router.

It's something I'd love to myself somewhere along the line.
