Anybody ever seen a bass you built being sold later and the seller claiming they built it?

No, but do tell. Something tells me you've experienced this.

I've burnt CD's for people of my band and they told people they played on it. I guess that's the same thing in a different light. But yeah, do tell.

Email him and tell him you'd like to buy it - but that you seem to have seen it somewhere before....it looks strangely familiar....

That sucks Tom, do you have a link? We can all send emails and tell the guy it looks like a Clement bass and ask him for details.

Thanks all I PM'ed him I am not sure if I should bring it to the moderators attention or not.

As for looking like one of mine it really doesn't it was the 4th I ever built and it is a little funky looking. The new buyer now knows it is one of mine he is happy with and he paid next to nothing for it so that angle is cool he has even joined club clement. I will wait and see if the "builder" replies to my PM.

It is a strange situation one I never considered would happen.

Do you put any markings on your basses to signify without a doubt that you built them? Perhaps a unique signature or serial number in one of the pickup cavities or underneath a tuning peg.

Keep track of the serial numbers/signatures. Then if it ever comes into question, you could have a buyer check in one of those locations to ensure that it was you who built it.

I first read that as you inlay a lego in the headstock. I was like,"THAT's frigging COOL!"

It takes some people a bit longer to figure out how truly small the world really is.

Here's the corrected thread giving Tom the build credit. Custom Fretless for Haiti relief *READ ON*
My deepest apologies went out to Tom and Moe.
Please no flaming PM's, I wont read them. My reason is explained in the EDIT on the thread.
Tom does an excellent job. It was on of his earlier builds.

in the future if you have this kind of situation come up, please don't hesitate to directly contact me or one of the other admins of the site.

this situation seems to have resolved itself fairly reasonably, but sometimes that is not the case, and we want to be involved if that happens.

you guys would be amazed and disgusted at some of the stunts your fellow/former tb'ers have attempted or succeeded at pulling off.

Funny story related to something like this:

One of my guitarist friends plays in an upstart (year old maybe?) band that plays in a rural county in a rather small village. There isn't much of a music scene but not small enough that everyone knows each other. Anyways, they started playing gigs last spring and got a few in before taking hiatus for a few months. However, apparently their band name didn't take hiatus, as he said they found posters promoting THEIR band as having a gig at a bar one night. Funny part was, they didn't even have an idea about it! So they go to the show and find that there's a guy promoting THEIR band as HIS band. Must have been the weirdest confrontation ever. Either way, they got the money for the gig - one way or another.

Some guys must be desperate out there.

That's just retarded. Why can't people build their own name and reputation up without stealing someone else's? Desperation isn't the word I'm thinking but I'll go with it since the word I want to use will get me an infraction.

I once stole a gig at Bob's Country Bunker by pretending my band were The Good Ol' Boys.
