Fret Placement

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys, I have four questions for you.

First, is there any difference in the fret/marker placement between a fretted and fretless bass?

Second, if there is any difference, is there a calculator that can output the fret distances for a fretless?

Third, is the difference so small that I should just not care, considering it's a fretless anyway?

And finally, I noticed that fretfind puts the saddle of the A string on a 5er closest to the nut than the other strings. Is this because of fretboard radius?

Cheers if anyone can help me on this one, and my apologies if these questions have been answered before.

no, there are no differeces between a fretless, say 34" scale and a fretted one, but you will want to be very careful cutting fret slots because you wont have the head part of the fret to cover any saw jumps. there usually sanded out when radiusing anyway but still

Generally position markers on fretless necks lie on the "fret" itself rather than between.

Thanks for that, I didn't think of it before. I'm going to have a flat fb, so I'll cut the fret marker slots with a mitre saw. The cage should lower the chance of any saw jumps.

I think you misread my question.
