Fret spacing help

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm using the 34" fret spacing out of Melvyn Hiscock's book as follows:
1.908
3.709
5.410
7.014
8.529
9.958
11.308
12.581
13.784
14.918
15.989
17.000
17.954
18.855
19.705
20.507
21.265
21.979
22.654
23.291
23.892
24.459
24.995
25.500

However, I don't have an engineering straight edge so I have to convert the decimals to 16th's using Excel.

I think I'm screwing up the conversion somehow because if I mark my fretboard and hold it next to my 34" scale Pedulla they don't match! They're off by at least the width of the fret.

Here's the file with the conversion.

Why not copy to paper your existing 34" scale, just mark the fret tang on the paper. Then transfer that to your new neck and you have a perfect copy.
Good luck,
Dirk

That's what I'll probably do, but what if I didn't have a 34" scale bass around?

some rounding error, perhaps?

there are some online calculators that can output fret positions in any known measurement.

16th's are too wide, you would need to do 64th's to even get close. Maybe going to ebay or something and getting a cheap digital caliper might be a better option. I have seen them as cheap as $14.99 +S&H....this ill get you the correct measurement
