normally i like rosewood to be dark, almost black. i think the maple looks better with that body no matter what color the rosewood was.

The question is more, what you want from this bass. If you want a glassy slapsound chose maple. If you want more warmth rosewood. More articulation and mids, ebony and so on and on ...

Based on aesthetics I would choose ebony. I like the contrast the maple provides but the instrument as a whole begins to look a little too busy with the birdseye.

Based on tone I would choose rosewood, bubinga, or maybe ebony.

Based on a combination of tone and aesthetics I would choose ebony or bubinga.

But really, Cliff does great work and the bass will likely turn out great regardless of your choice.

Ok Francois....based on sound Rosewood would give you more warmth(slightly) and Maple will make it a touch more crisp(treble attenuation) but all in all the sound will be quite similar with different nuances depending on what you prefer.

a little more treble go maple,

a little more mid go rosewood.

Personally I would go for a nice hammered birdseye, or tight curly Maple....it's all visual....LOL

Wire a 0.47 cap in line to the jack and see how much difference the fretboard material makes to tone.

After all these years, I'm finding myself surprised that the term "tonewood" is finally starting to irk me...
