glue problem

thanx to my woodshop teacher. there was a problem with laminating. he would not let my pieces to be jointed, so now there are gaps at the end large enough to slip a peice of paper in them. they do not go through the center of the neck. i am hoping that cutting it to size, and shaping it will get rid of all, or at least most of the little here-and-there gaps. if not, what can i do?

What kind of woodworker wouldn't allow jointing wood before gluing?

You can always add more glue now, and if you can add in any wood dust from the wood you will actually get a not bad fix. It may require using a toothpick or gravity to get it to fill.

At this point I think Dirk is right and all you can do is fill in as best you can. Not a great position to be in though.

Wood needs to be well joined before it is glued up, period! Even the best glue can not make up for a poor joint. I would really like to know why a shop teacher wouldn't insist on this, especially if the student knows enough to ask in the first place.

i think he has something aganst me. used to be my baseball coach. that didn't go to well... i think it might be ok. i still need to cut off exess, cut the headstock, and profile the neck, so i am hopin the bond is more solid at the core. luckily the year will be over soon, and i will get a different woodshop teacher next year.

I would bandsaw the joint, rejoin it then reglue. The last thing you want is stick more glue in it and go on with the build. Imagine dropping your bass in a year or two and the thing splitting right in the middle after all the work you did. That WILL happen because of your weak glue joint. You're better off doing the extra work to fix it now then regret it later

i hate the neck making right now. do any of you do neck blanks/ how much? what if i wanted a specific laminate? how much? how much for an additional truss installation?

ok, so get this, i am confronting my teacher about why he refused to allow the pieces to be jointed. "well the wood seemed smooth enough for me. of coarse i never tried making a guitar, so i wouldn't know." when i fought with him before gluing, saying that it would fuk up the project, and that proper neck gluing was one of the most important parts. then he starts chewing me out saying that i should use that peice and not be wasteful. pure BS.
