headstock veneer Zebrawood... Poly?

This is a 50/50 thread half sharing half question. I wanted to share my experience veneering the headstock of my SR500. The body broke and I am going to have a buddy of mine help me build a body out of zebrawood. So while I'm waiting I went ahead and did the headstock and going to do something about the broken one.

My question is what do I finish this with. I thought about just spraying it with poly, but don't know. What are your opinions?

cool clamping idea. not sure about the finish though.

I used a spray shellac on one i did for a old epiphone P clone headstock, worked fine.

Zebrawood is quite grainy, if you use a spray finish, you will need to build a lot of coats to fill, fill with epoxy or another clear filler, or deal with the grainy look, it's up to you on how you approach it. Poly will work fine, just like lacquer, just a different base, still clear, and has good durability.

Thanks fulltime I thought it looked pretty good.

I already have a can of poly and it sounds like it will work well thanks to musiclogic so I think I will just stick with that.

I'll post a pic when I get it done.

That headstock veneer looks nice. Isn't a solid Zebrawood body going to weigh a lot?
