Help drilling for jack on side of Jazz bass

Sign in to disble this ad
Before I go to drilling and possibly screw up, I'd like to hear from some experienced folks.

Here's what I want to do to my standard J bass; I want to use a three hole control plate ala '62 jazz with this configuration. two dual concentric pots (vol.,tone) and a series/paralell switch. That means I need a side mounted jack. I've owned a '61 Jazz and I like the wider spacing between knobs as opposed to the four hole plate.

Any suggestions as to placement, how and where to drill, what parts to use etc.

I just used a hand drill and Forstner bit but made sure I stayed level and straight. Then I drilled a seperate hole from it over to the control cavity. As far as location, whatever looks good.
