So the building bug has bitten hard, but now my wife and kids are in on it. They want me to build a Mickey Mouse Bass. I have some ideas but this will involve some painting I haven't done before. I'm not so worried about the actual paint and finishing, but more of how to apply it.
1) How do I best mask off the areas? What type of Masking Tape is best?
2) For detail work like hands or the Mickey Buttons should I just do decals?
3) I have an idea that I want to paint the neck yellow with Mickey's from different eras as fret markers and was going to waterslide decal those, but how do I paint the neck yellow?
Any advice is helpful.
So you know, the way I was thinking is that after I prime, I do the whole bass in white. Then I mask off the Mickey symbol on the back and razor out the shape, and same for the gloves on the front. I then mask out the border between the black and red. Then I shoot black, then cover the black and shoot red. Lastly I was going to waterslide the buttons as decals before doing the clear coat. Is this how you guys would do it?
Here are some mock ups of what I have in mind. It will be a P bass body with no pickguard and a rear rout.
Thanks for the help as always
