highway one finish

Sign in to disble this ad
I seem to remember reading someone's post that the Fender Highway Ones' nitro finish is either covered by poly or it's a poly base covered by nitro... anyone know which it is? What would you do to make one a bit more scratch/ding-resistant? Can I just add a few more coats of Reranch's clear nitro finish to a body to make it tougher? If it's coated in poly, will nitro stick to it? Thanks!

I believe it's nitro over poly so...
wood->poly->nitro

Anyone else? I don't want to just start spraying nitro lacquer all over the place...

I thought it was straight Nitro, but I could be wrong. Ibanezcollector also has pictures of the results of a mojoed Highway 1.

It's nitro over a sealing coat which could be polyester or polyurethane. I was just playing one a couple days ago. The nitro is pretty thin it looks like and will wear off easily.

I see no reason why you couldn't apply clear nitro over it, after cleaning it up first of course, just to get rid of oil and wax.

That sounds good. This thing will look awesome when it's done.
