Which Hipshot tuners?

Sign in to disble this ad
Sorry if this is too basic or too repeated but I cannot find anything on this site with the search as the "3 letter rule" is killing me.
I am building a parts bass and I have a Mighty Mite Jazz maple/rosewood neck with 11/16" holes. There are no other holes drilled.
I am trying to figure out which Hipshot tuner is the correct one.
I "think" the HB3's are what I need but the HB2's look like they might fit also.
If it's a "pick 'em" then which would you recommend?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I'd ask Hipshot, if their website is not sufficient to figure it out.

The guys at Hipshot are very good and helpful to deal with.

All the best

Thanks! I got a very quick answer from Hipshot. They said, "The HB2 and HB3 pegs will work, the HB3 machines are reverse winding".

So......

Do I care about reverse winding? Does this affect the performance of the bass or is it simply a style preference?

Thanks everyone.

Update.

Got a note from Hipshot (those guys are very helpful!) and it looks like the HB2's are what I want.
Is there a preferred vender here that supports talkbass or should I just buy from anyone? The going rate seems to be around 20 clams per tuner so price shopping is not really an issue.

I ordered them from Guitar Parts Resource LLC.
Thanks.

In case anyone cares....

The HB2's did not work. The bases are too big and there is no way (without mods) for the G tuner to fit without overhanging the head. The Guitar Parts Resource tech guys think that maybe the HB1's will work but I am not sure I can handle another 20% restocking fee and loss of shipping fee.
Maybe I will just buy a complete, used, MIM neck........

Don't give up the ship! Hipshot would still be my first choice. This is what I have on my Sadowsky although I can't recall if its a 3/8" or 1/2" post.

The tuner "base" has a much smaller footprint; no overhang.

Hipshot is incredible! They contacted me after reading this thread and offered to help me out. Not only did I save the restocking fee, I now have a very sweet set of HB1's.
I wish I could build more stuff just to use them as a resource.
I am extremely impressed with their customer service.
This is far far above and beyond anything I have ever seen.
A vendor making unsolicited contact with a customer! Wow!

They are great. I've e-mailed them a few times to get info on some tuners and shipping. They are very helpful, I'm going to be sending out a money order next week for some Ultralites and an Xtender.
