horn removal and customization question

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys, I'm gathering ideas and materials for a project and want some opinions on it. I want to add some veneer to my current bass (a de armond which I've replaced the pups and electronics, and removed the black paint to reveal a moderately sexy slab of mahogony) I am considering removing the left (strapside) horn and adding a larger fancier one, I would need to ensure a strong joint obviously, I figured a dowel or two would hold it together nicely.

Would this be a bad idea? I could just add veneer to the body with no other mods if this seems like a bad idea. so what do you guys think? would this weaken the horn area too much? be too much trouble? or sound like a reasonable idea? thanks for any input
