How do I prepare a body for painting?

Sign in to disble this ad
I want to repaint a project bass I have going with automotive paint. My friend has a shop where we can do it and quite a selection of paints. What should I do to prep the body? Do I need to sand off the old paint? can I just rough it up with some rough sandpaper? How would I go about sealing the new pickup cavities?

Also, what should a basic solid color paint job (dark shiny green) cost?

thanks,

cb
