How do you tell the make of a pickup?

I was wondering if there is any rule of thumb when it comes to buying used pickups and being able to tell what brand they are? I have seen all these great deals (Ebay)on used pickups, but how do I know that they are indeed say "Fender custom 60's" and not just Squier pickups in a Custom box?
Thank you for any help.

FWIW:

make and model are different two things. Fender is the make the model is Custom 60's and Squire

In general with buying (or anything for that matter), if you don't know what you're doing then don't do it - unless you care less about total loss. Then it doesn't matter.

On ebay that's what feedback's for. If you don't know how to judge sound feedback and how ebay works then you're going to set some money on fire before you learn. If the seller misrepresents an ebay item then you have recourse.
