How much would it warm it up?

If I went from a Birdseye Maple body with Maple neck w/ Pau Ferro fingerboard, to a Birdseye Maple body with Rosewood neck w/ Ebony fingerboard, would I see much of an improvement in warmth?

if you want "warmth" then I'd go with a mahogany body...

besides, a maple body would be heavy...I know...I have a bass with one...

What if it is the first (and only) body you have made, . . . just so happens to be made from a solid block of Birdseye Maple (even though you now know, in hindsight, that it wasn't the best choice)? Would you replace the body you worked so hard to make with a body with warmer woods, or try something else?

BTW, the "warmer body" would be premade from a parts supplier.

Along with post #5, would going with a less bright fingerboard wood produce better results, such as Pau Ferro on the Rosewood neck?

leave the body alone...you'll get a nice focused note from it, for sure...


my wishbass fretless has a maple body, maple/purpleheart/maple/ph/maple neck, and a purpleheart fingerboard...

I have nylon tape wound strings on it and she sings like a canary.

I have to admit that I am unfamiliar with nylon tape wound strings. I AM thinking that I may want to switch from round wounds to something else as a good first step. Flats or something. However, I am going to do a search on these nylon tape wound strings you mentioned.

carvin.com sells the labella's for $20 for a 4-string set...

if you buy them direct from labella's website, you'll pay $89...

juststrings.com sells them for a lot more than $20, too...

go figure...

I use the labella's on two of my basses...one is a mahogany neck, spruce top, semi-acoustic carvin AC40, fretted...nice mellow string for this bass, but maintains a nice focus...

the other bass, I use them on is a maple body, maple/purpleheart neck, purpleheart fingerboard wishbass fretless...it has a very sweet, round-yet-focused tone.

by the way, these strings last forever...the wishbass strings (on the bass since 2004) used to be on the carvin...they came with the carvin in 1997...i changed them in 2002, and new strings didn't change the tone...
