A neckthrough. A continuous finger board that goes from the nut, over the pickup(s), to the end of the bass body and serving as a string through anchoring. Ebony nut and saddles.

You mean like this Shuker? OK, the bridge doesn't look wooden but you get the idea.

Ooh, that is sweet. I don't think I'd want a bass with only piezos, but it sure is pretty to look at. I like the way they describe the fingerboard--the "infinite octave" fingerboard. Of course, you need infinitely small fingers to play the infinite octaves, but it sounds cool anyhow.

Once you put a pickup in there, that limits how high up the fingerboard you can play, as if you try to play between the pickup and the bridge then it won't work. Though I guess it's intended as an aesthetic thing anyway.

Look up pagelli. Beautiful examples of this.

My Wishbass has a 3 octave plus fingerboard - as do most other Wishbasses. The upper reaches aren't really much use in practice, I find.

We know you would be doing the fretboard in BLOODWOOD, of course, and piezo only, I am sure. Right?

Yes, that is loverly, indeed. And I love that whitewash antiqued finish on some of the others that I have seen other European luthiers also utilize. Great stuff and fine fretless design. IMHO.

Ive played this monster at Shuker Towers - its just an amazing instrument. The neck is a tiny 17mm thick, total dream to play, or would be if I could play without frets...

It's snakewood. One enormous, perfect piece of snakewood.

Here's are some ebony brothers.

Dang I love those things.

Yes, Ritter has made some, a few years after Pagelli. Armen has done one also.

Why snakewood is so pricey?

Because of both beauty and scarcity. It is very attractive, but it cracks when it dries. Good pieces large enough for even a guitar fretboard are rare. Even small sticks for making pens are expensive.
